Where to stay in Armenia

Hotels

Armenia offers a range of accommodation options, with the widest choice available in Yerevan. The capital has international-standard hotels, boutique properties, business hotels and budget hostels, many located within walking distance of major sights. Standards are generally good, and service is improving as tourism grows.

Outside Yerevan, accommodation is more limited but still adequate in most regional centres such as Gyumri, Dilijan and near Lake Sevan. Visitors will find small hotels, guesthouses and family-run bed-and-breakfasts. In rural areas, facilities may be basic but welcoming. Booking in advance is advisable during the summer months and around major holidays.

In southern Armenia and more remote regions, accommodation options may be fewer, so travellers should plan carefully, particularly if following less common routes.

Camping

Camping in Armenia is possible but remains relatively undeveloped compared with many European countries. There are a small number of organised campsites, particularly around Lake Sevan and in some national park areas, though facilities can be basic.

Wild camping is generally tolerated in remote areas, especially in mountainous regions, provided that campers respect private property and leave no trace. However, there are few formal regulations posted, and travellers should exercise discretion and common sense.

Those exploring the highlands or undertaking multi-day hikes should be prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions, especially at altitude. Organised trekking tours and eco-lodges offer structured alternatives for visitors seeking outdoor experiences with logistical support.
