Where to stay in Mexico
Mexico offers a wide range of accommodation options, catering to all budgets and travel styles. In major cities such as Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey, visitors will find international hotel chains, boutique hotels and serviced apartments with modern facilities.
Tourist areas such as Cancún, the Riviera Maya, Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta offer a large number of resorts, including all-inclusive options. Elsewhere, accommodation ranges from small guesthouses and boutique hotels to eco-lodges and colonial-style properties.
Standards are generally good, though they can vary in more remote areas. Advance booking is recommended during peak travel periods and in popular destinations.
Camping is possible in parts of Mexico, particularly in national parks, coastal areas and designated campgrounds. Facilities can vary from basic sites to more developed areas with amenities such as toilets and showers.
Wild camping is not widely practised and may not always be permitted, particularly in protected areas. Travellers should seek permission where required and use established campsites when available.
Visitors should also be mindful of safety and local conditions when camping, particularly in remote regions.
