To enter Chile, visitors must hold a passport that is valid for at least six months from the date of entry into the country, and it must be valid for the entire duration of their stay.
Citizens of many countries and territories, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and all European Union member states, can enter Chile visa-free for tourism purposes. The length of stay permitted varies depending on nationality, but is typically up to 90 days per calendar year.
Travel to Easter Island (Rapa Nui) is subject to special regulations. Although foreign nationals who may enter Chile visa-free can also visit Easter Island without a separate visa, they must complete an online entry form prior to travel and present proof of onward travel and confirmed accommodation on the island. Stays on Easter Island are generally limited to a maximum of 30 days, regardless of the length of stay permitted on mainland Chile.
Visa fees for travellers requiring single- or multiple-entry visas vary according to nationality and visa category. Applicants should consult the official Chilean immigration portal for up-to-date information on requirements and applicable fees.
Travellers who do require a visa for tourism must apply in advance through the official Chilean consular system. The process is conducted online via the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs' consular platform, where applicants complete the visa application form, upload required documents such as passport pages, photos, travel itinerary and proof of accommodation, and submit their application for review. Once the application is processed and approved, applicants typically receive notification by email and may either download an electronic visa or collect it from the Chilean embassy or consulate handling their case. Requirements vary by nationality and visa type, so applicants should follow instructions on the official Chilean consular services website when applying.
