Information

Two staffed information desks operate in baggage reclaim, with other information points located around the terminal. Blue uniformed “VIP” volunteers provide passenger assistance at peak periods. Computerised kiosks and brochures provide information in Chinese, English, German, Japanese, Korean and Spanish. Foreign-language assistance is also available via AT&T at the information desks. Driving directions

From central Portland, cross the Willamette River and take I-84 East to I-205 North. Then take the Airport Way exit. Follow Airway Way and the airport signs to the terminal.

Public Transport

Public transport rail

Light rail: TriMet MAX light rail services (tel: +1 503 238 7433; www.trimet.org) run from Portland International Airport to central Portland (journey time: 40 minutes, trains run every 15 minutes on average) and Beaverton on the Red Line. Tickets are available from machines in the arrivals lobby area and on the station platform, which is located on Airport Way. Costs $2.50 for adults 18-64 years old.

Public transport road

Bus / shuttle: Many bus, shuttle and coach services operate from Portland International Airport to various areas around Oregon. For example: City2City takes you to Albany, Eugene and Salem, while Central Oregon Breeze takes you through the mighty Cascade Mountains to Bend and other areas in Central Oregon. Taxi: Taxis are readily available from the Ground Transportation Centre on the west side of the parking garage, in front of Arrivals. The journey to downtown Portland usually takes between 20 and 40 minutes, depending on traffic.

Money

A full service bank is located in Concourse C. Numerous ATMs and two Travelex bureaux de change (one in the baggage claim area and another in concourse D) are also available.

Communication

Free Wi-Fi internet access is available throughout much of Portland International Airport. Mail drops can be found at the North and South Service Centres in Clocktower Plaza – stamps are available at ATMs, as well as at the Oregonian News and Your Northwest Travel Mart shops near the security area.

Food

There is a good selection of cafés, bars and restaurants at Portland International Airport in both the public and departures areas. Among the options are international fast-food chains, ice cream parlours, Asian cuisine, delis and American-style diners.

Shopping

There are numerous shops at Portland International Airport after security. There is no sales tax in the State of Oregon so essentially it's all 'duty-free'.

Luggage

Portland Provisions (tel: +1 503 284 1292) provides luggage storage at the north end of the baggage claim area, past Carousel 10. There is a lost and found office in the Mezzanine level (tel: +1 503 460 4272 ext 4272), or contact your airline if you have lost something on your flight.

Other

Other facilities at Portland International Airport include a barber's, a spa and children's play area. Portland is known for being quirky and arty, so unlike other airports which can be unwelcoming, everyday there are volunteer musicians performing in the terminal to entertain and provide a pleasing environment. Expect anything from jazz to contemporary music.

Conference and business

Located on the mezzanine level (above Clocktower Plaza), the PDX Conference Centre (tel: +1 503 460 4050) offers meeting rooms and business facilities and can accommodate up to 50 people. Equipment such as digital projectors and podiums are available for rental.

Disabled facilities

Portland International Airport is well equipped for disabled travellers. Facilities include accessible toilets, TTY telephones, visual paging and a guide dog relief area. Passengers requiring wheelchairs and special assistance should inform their airline prior to travel.

Reserved car parking spaces are available next to the lifts in the short-term car park and near the bus shelters in the economy and long-term car parks. Shuttles to the car parks are wheelchair-accessible.

Car parking

Located next to the terminal building, the short-term car park has 3,300 spaces and direct access to the terminal via the skybridge on level 4. The long-term car park is opposite the terminal building with tunnels and moving sidewalks connecting to the terminal. In addition to that, there is an economy car park near I-205 off Airway Way, with free shuttle buses running to/from the terminal. Other parking facilities include valet parking (just outside the terminal) and a 'cell phone' car park for those awaiting arriving passengers. For more information on parking, visit the website.

Car rental

Offices for car hire companies Avis, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz and National are located in the Car Rental Centre, on the first floor of the main car park. Advantage, Alamo, Budget and Thrifty are located nearby, but cars can be requested for pick-up or drop-off at the airport.
