Jerez Airport (IATA: XRY, ICAO: LEJR), also known as Jerez de la Frontera Airport or La Parra Airport, serves the province of Cádiz in Andalusia and is located approximately 8km (5mi) northeast of Jerez de la Frontera city centre. Managed by Aena, it is a compact, single-terminal facility with a straightforward operational layout. The airport handled around 949,000 passengers in 2024; route changes in 2025, including the withdrawal of Ryanair’s base operations, affected overall traffic volumes, reflecting the sensitivity of regional airports to low-cost carrier decisions. Passengers are advised to verify current route availability before booking.

Jerez Airport has two distinct passenger profiles. Approximately half of annual traffic is domestic, with Madrid and Barcelona the primary routes. The international market is dominated by visitors from German-speaking Central Europe, with carriers including Eurowings, Condor, TUI fly and Discover Airlines historically accounting for the largest share of inbound tourism. The airport also benefits from its proximity to the Circuito de Jerez–Ángel Nieto, which hosts the annual MotoGP Spanish Grand Prix in early May. This event drives significant peaks in passenger traffic, making advance booking of parking and accommodation essential for visitors attending.

The XRY IATA code derives from Xerez, the historical spelling of Jerez and the origin of the English word “sherry”. The airport is also notable for housing FTE Jerez, one of Europe’s leading commercial pilot training academies, which operates from the former military barracks on the airport grounds and has trained pilots for airlines worldwide.

Information

Passenger information is provided from the Aena information desk in the departures hall on the ground floor. A Cádiz Provincial Tourism Board stand with a virtual tourist information assistant is also located in the arrivals hall. For general enquiries and passenger support, contact Aena on +34 913 211 000.

Terminal Layout

Jerez Airport operates a single compact two-storey terminal. The ground floor (floor 0) houses the arrivals hall, baggage reclaim, check-in desks, car hire offices and the Aena information and lost property desks. The first floor (floor 1) is the departures area and contains the security checkpoint, the airside gate concourse, the duty-free shop, the café-bar and restaurant, and the VIP lounge. The layout is straightforward and easy to navigate without prior familiarity; security queues are rarely lengthy outside peak charter season periods.

Driving directions

The airport is located on the N-IV national road, approximately 8km northeast of Jerez de la Frontera city centre. From Jerez, follow signs for the airport from the N-IV; the journey typically takes 10 to 15 minutes. From Cádiz, take the A-4 motorway north and join the N-IV towards Jerez. From Seville, the A-4 provides a direct southbound route with journey times of around one hour, depending on traffic conditions. All terminal approach roads are clearly signed. Drop-off and pick-up areas are located directly in front of the terminal building.

Public Transport

Public transport rail

Rail

Jerez Airport has its own railway station immediately adjacent to the terminal building, making rail the most straightforward public transport option. Two Renfe services call at the airport station. The Cercanías Line C-1 operates throughout the year, connecting the airport with Jerez de la Frontera city centre (approximately 9 minutes), El Puerto de Santa María (19 minutes), San Fernando (38 minutes) and Cádiz (57 minutes), among other stops along the Bahía de Cádiz corridor. The Renfe Media Distancia regional service on the Seville–Cádiz route also calls at the airport several times daily in each direction, extending connections northward to Seville (approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes) and southward to Cádiz (approximately 47 minutes). The Media Distancia service is particularly useful for passengers travelling directly between the airport and Seville without stopping in Jerez city centre. Timetables, ticket prices and bookings are available at the station or via renfe.com.

Public transport road

p>Bus

Bus services to and from the airport are operated by the Consorcio de Transportes Bahía de Cádiz. Line M-050 runs daily between the airport, Jerez de la Frontera city centre and Cádiz, and is the most reliable bus option for passengers travelling outside weekday hours. Line M-052 links the airport with Jerez and Cádiz via the Puerto Real university campus and El Puerto de Santa María, operating on weekdays only. Line M-053 serves Jerez and Cádiz via the Hospital de Jerez, also on weekdays only. All services stop at the bus stop outside the terminal. Timetables, fares and route maps are available at cmtbc.es; for enquiries call the Consorcio on (+34) 955 038 665.

Taxi

The official taxi rank is located directly outside the terminal building, with services available around the clock. The journey to Jerez de la Frontera city centre takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes; journeys to Cádiz typically take between 45 and 60 minutes depending on traffic. Taxis operate on a metered system under regulated fares. Passengers should use only officially marked vehicles from the designated rank and should not accept unsolicited approaches inside the terminal building.

Terminal facilities

Money

ATMs are available within the terminal. Currency exchange facilities are limited at this airport; passengers who require local or foreign currency are advised to make arrangements before arrival or in Jerez city centre, where exchange facilities are more readily available.

Communication

Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminal via the Aena network, accessible without registration. Work areas with mains sockets and USB charging points are provided in the public areas on the ground floor. The airport does not operate a dedicated business centre, but the multi-purpose meeting room on the ground floor (see Conference and Business) can be hired for work purposes.

Food

The airside area on the first floor offers a café-bar and a restaurant serving hot and cold food and drinks throughout the airport’s operating hours. Options include light snacks, set meals and a drinks selection that reflects Andalusia’s traditions, including local wines and sherries. In the landside arrivals area, a multi-shop carries packaged food, confectionery, cold drinks and basic provisions for arriving passengers. Given the airport’s compact size, catering provision is consolidated on the airside level; passengers with specific dietary requirements or a preference for a longer sit-down meal are advised to eat before reaching the airport or in Jerez city centre after arrival.

Shopping

The principal retail offering at Jerez Airport is a duty-free shop located airside on the first floor, stocking perfumes and cosmetics, spirits and wines, tobacco products, confectionery, and a selection of Spanish and Andalusian speciality items. Sherry and brandy de Jerez make particularly suitable last-minute purchases, given the region’s international reputation for both. A landside convenience outlet in the arrivals area carries newspapers, magazines, books, travel accessories and convenience items. The duty-free shop is accessible only to departing passengers who have cleared security; passengers in the arrivals area are limited to the landside shop. Retail hours align with the airport’s operating schedule.

Luggage

Left-luggage

Left-luggage storage facilities are not listed among Jerez Airport’s published services. Passengers who require baggage storage are advised to confirm availability directly with the airport information desk on arrival, or contact Aena on +34 913 211 000 before travelling.

Lost and Found

The Lost and Found office is located in the departures hall on the ground floor. It can be reached by telephone on (+34) 956 150 063 or by email at asaxry@aena.es.

Items lost on board an aircraft or during the flight are handled by the respective airline, and passengers are advised to contact the airline directly for further assistance.

Other

Longes

The Sala VIP Jerez lounge is available airside on the first floor, offering a quieter environment away from the main gate area with complimentary drinks and snacks, Wi-Fi and charging facilities. Access is by day pass through the Aena website or via eligible lounge membership programmes.

Other Services

Medical services are available within the terminal; passengers with specific medical requirements are advised to contact Aena in advance of travel. Family facilities including children’s areas are available; current locations can be confirmed at the information desk. Accessible toilets are provided throughout all terminal areas.

Airport facilities

Conference and business

A multi-purpose room on the ground floor is available for hire for meetings, conferences, press events and training sessions. Work areas with mains sockets are provided in the public areas for individual use. Enquiries about meeting room availability and hire should be directed to the airport information desk in the departures hall.

Disabled facilities

Aena operates a Barrier Free assistance service for passengers with reduced mobility or disabilities, available at all Aena airports. Assistance can be pre-booked online at aena.es or by calling +34 913 211 000; passengers are advised to request assistance at least 48 hours before travel. Designated assistance meeting points are located in the terminal public lobby and in the arrivals area. Accessible toilets are provided in the baggage reclaim hall, the public area and throughout the departures zone.

Car parking

Car parking is available in the main car park (P1/P2) directly adjacent to the terminal, offering both short-term and longer-stay options. Advance booking through the Aena website at parking.aena.es secures lower rates than paying on arrival. Demand increases significantly during the annual MotoGP event at the Circuito de Jerez, typically held in early May, when early advance booking is essential.

Car rental

Car hire desks from Avis/Budget, Enterprise, Europcar, Firefly, Goldcar, Hertz and Sixt are located in the arrivals hall on the ground floor. A hire car is the most practical option for exploring the wider province of Cádiz, which includes the historic city of Cádiz itself, the sherry and brandy producing towns of the Jerez Triangle, the white villages of the Sierra de Grazalema and the beaches of the Costa de la Luz. Standard EU and most international driving licences are accepted in Spain; visitors should confirm their licence is valid for use in Spain before collecting a vehicle.
