Après-ski
Seefeld has a busy après ski scene, although rarely a raucous one. There’s a great range of establishments from traditional wood-lined drinking dens to sophisticated cocktail bars in luxury hotels.
Woods Kitchen & Bar (tel: +43 5212 53210; www.woods-seefeld.at) is a stylish (and very popular) wine bar, while the luxurious Klosterbräu Hotel (tel: +43 5212 26210; www.klosterbraeu.com) has several après ski choices including the Pianobar, with live piano music, and Kanne Club for dancing.
Alternatively Coco (tel: +43 664 969 2022) in the resort’s casino and Fledermaus (tel: +43 664 4252 272; www.fledermaus-seefeld.at) both do good cocktails. Britannia Inn (tel: +43 5212 2191) and Jeep & Buffalo (tel: +43 5212 2191) are lively clubbing venues with regular themed nights, both located the same building.
Seefeld has plenty of dining choice with more than 50 restaurants. Although many serve traditional Tyrolean cuisine, there are also a lot of specialists in international dining too.
Triendlsäge (tel: +43 5212 2580; www.triendlsaege.at), the Seefelder Stube (tel: +43 676 8430 04810; www.marcati.at) and Alt Seefeld (tel: +43 5212 2191; www.ferienhotel-seefeld.com) all provide inexpensive Tyrolean cuisine with local ingredients. Südtiroler Stube (tel: +43 5212 50446) also has a good reputation for its affordable local fare.
At the other end of the scale, upmarket Tyrolean food can be found in Klosterkeller (tel: +43 5212 26210; www.klosterbraeu.com), while the restaurant in the 5-star Hotel Astoria (tel: +43 5212 22720; www.astoria-seefeld.com) is one of most elegant in Seefeld, renowned for creative international cuisine and a romantic environment.
The brasserie Sir Henry (tel +43 5212 53220; www.sir-henry-hotel.com), a new and exclusive gourmet restaurant and bar that combines the Alpine cuisine with a touch of France, boasts an enviable spot on top of the Gschwandtkopf mountain and affords great views.
Resort Information
Among the more interesting outdoor attractions in Seefeld are the chance to try biathlon (cross-country skiing and rifle shooting) at the biathlon centre – XC Academy (tel: +43 5212 50300; www.xc-academy.com) offers biathlon training for all levels of ability. There are also over 140km (115 miles) of winter hiking and Nordic Walking trails and runs. What's more, Seefeld village is also home to the free Reitherjoch-Alm toboggan run and an ice skating and curling rink. In the surrounding villages there are more toboggan runs and curling rinks.
Options for the less energetic include a visit to the parish church (which refers to the 1384 ‘Miracle of the Host’ in reliefs), which still welcomes a clutch of pilgrims each year, a cinema and large spa and water park.
Away from the resort, nearby Innsbruck is easily accessible, as are the German destinations of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Munich for day trips.
On the slopes, Skischool Seefeld (tel: +43 5212 2412; www.schi-seefeld.at) is a good option for children, teenagers and adults alike who are looking to get up and running on the slopes. It also offers a children's club for age kids aged two years and above. The ski-oriented fun park on the Geigenbühel by the village centre provides plenty of fun, while tobogganing is also a popular activity for young ones in Seefeld.
Indoors, various hotels have family-friendly swimming pools, while the Olympia Sports and Congress Centre (tel: +43 5212 3220; www.seefeld-sports.at) has a 75m (246ft) pool with a children's area, as well as two water slides and a cinema.
Seefeld is by no means a shopper’s paradise, but its pedestrian-only village centre features a fair selection of souvenir shops and expensive boutiques. Among these is Holzschnitzerei Röck (tel: +43 664 561 7183), which sells unique woodcarvings of saints, angels and nativity scenes. Innsbruck is also within easy reach, offering a wider choice of Tyrolean crafts and Swarovski crystals.
Trot around the village and lake in one of the horse-drawn carriages that congregate just outside the village centre. Prices are steeper than the slopes, but it's a hugely enjoyable way to get around. Alternatively, try out Tyrol's first beer-barrel bath at the Hotel Diana (tel: +43 5212 2060; www.hotel-diana.at).
Hotels
Seefeld revels in a fantastic choice of luxurious accommodation. There are several 5-star hotels housed in beautiful buildings and it also has a great choice of private apartments and opulent ski chalets. There is a limited choice when it comes to budget accommodation, but renting a self-catering chalet or apartment can be good value for money for large groups.
One of five, 5-star hotels in Seefeld, Hotel Klosterbräu offers sumptuous and sizeable rooms set within a former 16th-century monastery. The hotel also boasts an opulent spa and a choice of bars, lounge areas and restaurants.
