Airport news

Terminal 4 opened on 31 October 2017, and a fifth terminal is planned for 2020. Expansion of the airport's parking facilities is also taking place.

Information counters can be found at several locations within the terminals. Help telephones and touch-screen information kiosks are also situated throughout the airport. Additionally, passengers can submit enquiries in advance through the airport's website.

Transfer between terminals

The free Skytrain service runs frequently between the terminals 1, 2 and 3. Travellators connect the terminals to the transit areas.

For Terminal 4, there is a free bus shuttle connects terminal 4 with terminals 1, 2 and 3 round the clock.

Driving directions

The East Coast Parkway runs directly between the airport and Singapore city centre. To ease congestion, the Electronic Road Pricing Scheme (ERP) is enforced and will deduct tolls from the In-Vehicle Unit (IU) fitted in every car including rental vehicles. Drivers need to insert a cash card which can be purchased at a bank branch, selected petrol stations and 7-Eleven outlets. The total drive time from the airport to city centre is approximately 30 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.

Public Transport

Public transport rail

Rail: The metro station, locally known as MRT (tel: +65 1 800 336 8900;, is located beneath Terminal 2. It takes about 30 minutes to reach the city centre by train (with one change at Tanah Merah). Tourists can purchase a Singapore Tourist Pass which allows unlimited travel on metro and basic bus services for a set period at the MRT station in Terminal 2.

Ground transportation desks (tel: +65 6241 3818) are situated in the arrivals hall of each terminal, and provide information on all forms of transport to/from the airport.

Bus: Several public buses link Changi with various destinations across the island. For example, bus 36 goes to Dhoby Ghaut, Somerset and Orchard Road. Bus stops are located at the basement of Terminals 1, 2 and 3. For Terminal 4, passengers need to walk to the bus stop next to Car Park 4B. As locals use a smartcard called EZ-Link to pay for public transport, cash payment is rare, so for visitors, it is best to prepare the exact fare as no change will be given. It takes about 60 minutes to get to downtown Singapore.

Coach: A regular Transtar (tel: +65 6299 9009; coach service leaves from Terminal 2 for Johor Bahru, across the causeway in Malaysia.

Shuttle: Shared-ride shuttle buses (tel: +65 6241 3818) run between the airport and city centre hotels.

Taxi: Taxi ranks are situated outside the arrivals hall and are available 24 hours a day. All taxis are metered and the fares are very reasonable. The journey to the city takes around 30 minutes depending on the destination, grade of taxi (a Mercedes cab costs a few dollars more) and time of day or night.
