Mauritius Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport Guide (MRU)
Previously known as Plaisance Airport, Mauritius Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport is the main airport for the island nation of Mauritius. Coming from Mahebourg, take the A10 (Royal Road) westwards and follow signs for Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport after about 6km (4 miles).
Heading from Port Louis, take the M2 towards the southeast and follow signs for the airport after about 40km (25 miles).
Public Transport
Bus: Bus services (Number 9, 10 and 198) between Mauritius Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, Mahebourg, Rivière des Gallets and Port Louis run quite frequently (every 10-20 minutes) throughout the day; however, these can be impractical for travellers with luggage (journey time: 60-105 minutes; fare: MUR30). The bus stop is situated in the airport’s car park area.
Taxi: Taxis are available outside the terminal building at all times. It is best to agree on a price before the journey, which takes about 45 minutes into Port Louis and should cost around MUR1,500. There is a taxi service desk (+230 5 250 5349) in the Tour Operators Hall section of Arrivals.
Terminal facilities
There are ATMs outside the arrivals hall. Currency exchange services are available in the pre-security departure area and in the arrivals area. There are bank offices in both Arrivals and Departures. VAT refunds are available for eligible departing visitors.
Wi-Fi internet access is available throughout Mauritius Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (free for the first 3 hours). A post office is located outside the arrivals hall and is open every day except Sunday and letter boxes are available on level 1. Pay phones are available by the Tour Operators Parking. Various charging stations are located throughout the terminal.
There are several places to eat and drink at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport. A restaurant is located in the arrivals area, while another eatery in the departures area offers both fast food and à la carte menus. Further options are available after security for departing passengers.
Three duty-free shops are available at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, one in Departures and two in the Arrivals area. These offer a wide range of spirits, perfumes, tobacco, chocolate and more.
In addition, there are a selection of gift shops selling local products such as clothes, accessories, local spices and crafts, and newsagents selling books, magazines, cigarettes and basic pharmaceutical products. There is also a flower shop (international check-in hall), a bookstore (international departure), and luxury stores (international departures).
Enquiries about lost property or luggage should be made to either the information desk (tel: +230 637 3635) in the arrivals hall or at the Baggage Service Counters, adjacent to Carousel 6 in the baggage reclaim hall and in the public corridor by Gate 8. Luggage storage is not available at the airport. Luggage wrapping and repacking is available pre-security departure.
Airport facilities
Two VIP lounges are available at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport. These offer internet access, fax and photocopy services, magazines and shower facilities.
Meeting rooms are available at the on-site Holiday Inn (tel: +230 601 2700; www.ihg.com).
There are nearly 600 parking spaces available at the airport. Drop-off and parking for less than 20 minutes is free and then hourly rates apply.
International car hire companies represented at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport include Avis, Budget, Dollar, Europcar, First, Hertz and Sixt, as well as a handful of local operators. Car rental counters are situated in the Tour Operators' Hall (in Arrivals).
