Getting around Ivory Coast
Air Côte d'Ivoire (www.aircotedivoire.com) operates domestic flights in Ivory Coast.
Road conditions are poor, but improving, especially in the capital, where new roads and bridges have been constructed. Drivers should be aware of potholes, poorly lit vehicles and bad driving. Many roads become impassable during the rainy season (May to November). Petrol stations are frequent except in the north.
Insurance is compulsory for the driver. The driver requires a national driving licence, accompanied by attestation from the embassy of the issuing country that it is genuine.
Extensive bus and boat services are operated in Abidjan by SOTRA (www.sotra.ci). Taxis are usually red and metered; rates are doubled from 0000-0600.
