Weather in Christchurch

Best time to visit

Christchurch is popular with visitors year round, with mild temperatures from spring to autumn (September to May), when most of the festivals take place. The region is flush with blossoms, budding trees and new-born lambs in the spring. Summer (when daily temperatures average ranges from 12°C (53°F) to 22°C (71°F) ) is the peak tourist season, and perfect for outdoor activities such as hiking and watersports. Christchurch and the Canterbury region showcase the country’s most spectacular autumn colours. Winter (when daily temperatures average between 1°C (34°F) and 11°C (51°F) ) draws skiers to the excellent nearby snowfields.
