Getting to Bahamas by boat
A large number of international cruise ships call at Nassau. Nassau also has direct passenger-cargo connections with the USA, the UK, the West Indies and South America.
Travellers arriving in the Bahamas by private boat must pay a customs and immigration fee and arrive at one of the official ports of entry.
Balearia Caribbean (tel: +1 866 699 6988; www.ferryexpress.com) runs regular ferries between Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Freeport, Grand Bahama (journey time - 4 hours).
Bahamas Shuttle Boat (tel: +1 954 969 0069; www.bahamashuttleboat.com) operates a fast ferry on the same route (journey time - 3 hours).
